  • Job purpose:

    To deliver an efficient and effective manufacturing operation that is capable of meeting the requirements of 4basebio customers in a manner compliant with relevant regulatory expectations.

    Responsible for the scheduling, execution and documentation of 4basebio manufacturing campaigns.

    Line management of team members and support activities related to GMP manufacturing operations as per Eudralex and FDA cGMP regulations.

    To provide leadership and guidance to the manufacturing team and ensure that all team training and development needs are met.

    Responsibilities:

    • Preparation of production schedules and management of team workload.

    • Line management of manufacturing team members including goal setting, conducting one-to-one meetings, performing employee appraisals and ensuring company polices are correctly followed.

    • Ensure that manufacturing operations are run in compliance with regulatory guidelines and that cGMP activities performed in a safe and efficient manner.

    • Coordinate and drive training within the manufacturing team to ensure departmental capabilities are appropriate to meet the required quality standards and anticipated future batch requirements.

    • Ensure a schedule is in place and maintained for all manufacturing, maintenance and operational purposes and that the schedule in accordance with agreed customer timelines.

    • Independently manage and review QMS documentation, keep accurate records, follow instructions and comply with company policies in accordance to GMP regulations and the company QMS.

    • As a manufacturing leader, be responsible for key QMS documentation sign off.

    • Lead team meetings.

    • To help establish and reinforce a high-performance employee-friendly and quality focused work culture.

    • Ensure responsibilities are fully understood by staff members through provision of an accurate job description or other suitable documentation.

    • Develop, coach and motivate the manufacturing team.

    • Manage cleaning, environmental monitoring and housekeeping tasks required to support manufacturing operations.

    • Hire new staff as required and manage the onboarding process.

    • Keep up to date with relevant scientific, technical and regulatory developments.

    The Opportunity

    We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Business Development Director to lead and drive commercial growth across the Southern and Western Europe region. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in expanding 4basebio’s footprint within the cell and gene therapy (CGT) sector, promoting the adoption of our synthetic DNA technology and CDMO capabilities.

    This individual will be responsible for identifying, qualifying, and securing new business while deepening relationships with existing biotech, pharmaceutical, and academic customers. Leveraging deep industry expertise, the Director will guide clients from early development through late-stage and commercial manufacturing, ensuring strong alignment between market needs, our technological offerings, and company strategy.

    This is a field-based position with regular client visits, attendance at conferences, and international travel as needed within the assigned territory, including periodic visits to our UK headquarters. Candidate must reside within assigned territory.  You’ll be instrumental in establishing 4basebio as the go-to synthetic DNA partner in a dynamic and rapidly evolving market.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Drive new business development by identifying, qualifying, and securing opportunities across biotech, pharmaceutical, and academic accounts. Manage the entire sales pipeline from lead generation to contract close, converting opportunities into new business while achieving or surpassing sales targets.

    • Leverage your network, proactive prospecting, and participation in industry events to expand 4basebio’s regional footprint.

    • Champion 4basebio’s synthetic DNA platform, driving adoption by clearly articulating technical and commercial value propositions to R&D scientists, manufacturing leaders, and C-suite executives.

    • Coordinate technical deep-dive discussions with internal subject matter experts (SMEs) to support and advance customer evaluations.

    • Manage complex customer relationships and guide clients effectively through the transition from plasmid DNA to synthetic DNA solutions.

    • Serve as the Voice of Customer (VOC) to help inform internal product development, market positioning, and strategic planning.

    • Stay current on cell and gene therapy (CGT) industry trends, scientific advances, and regulatory developments.

    • Maintain ownership of CRM activities, ensuring all Salesforce records, pipeline updates, and customer interactions are accurate and updated in a timely manner to support transparent reporting for strategic decision-making.

    • Prepare and deliver accurate and timely sales forecasts, quotes/proposals, account strategies, and other requested materials to support commercial leadership and operational planning. Ensure all reports are submitted on schedule and consistently meet performance expectations in alignment with company objectives.

    • Travel 50% or more within the assigned territory to develop new customer relationships and support key accounts. This is a field-based sales role with regular client visits, event participation, and periodic travel to our UK headquarters.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Biochemistry, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).

    • Minimum 10+ years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, with at least 5+ years in a CDMO business development role.  Cell and gene therapy experience is required.

    • Proven track record of driving revenue growth and consistently achieving or exceeding commercial targets within the CDMO services space.

    • Strong understanding of cell and gene therapy processes, including viral vector production, plasmid manufacturing, and/or cell therapy manufacturing workflows.

    • Proven track record of driving revenue growth and establishing high-value partnerships.

    • Strong understanding of the synthetic DNA and advanced therapy manufacturing landscape.

    • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.

    • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate market insights into actionable business plans.

    • Fluency in English required; additional European languages are a plus.

    • Travel across the region as needed and outlined in key responsibilities.

    • Well-established network of contacts in key biotech hubs across pharma and biotech.

    The Opportunity:

    The Vice President of Business Development will drive the commercial growth of 4basebio across the UK/Europe, Middle East & Africa, and Asia-Pacific regions, with particular focus on EU/UK and APAC. This role is responsible for defining strategy, leading and mentoring a high-performing commercial team, and personally engaging in high-impact business development activities.

    We are seeking a dynamic, hands-on leader to expand 4basebio’s presence in the cell and gene therapy (CGT) sector and promote adoption of our synthetic DNA technology and GMP CDMO capabilities. The VP will lead the team while actively identifying, qualifying, and closing new business opportunities and strengthening relationships with biotech, pharmaceutical, and academic partners.

    This field-based role requires frequent client engagement, attendance at conferences, and international travel—both independently and alongside direct BD reports—within the assigned region, including periodic visits to our UK headquarters. Candidates must reside within EU/UK.

    The VP will be instrumental in establishing 4basebio as the go-to synthetic DNA partner in a fast-growing, rapidly evolving market.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop and execute a robust regional business development & sales strategy aligned to global corporate objectives.

    • Own revenue targets, growth metrics, pipeline management and sales quotas for the EMEA/APAC region.

    • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing business development and commercial team, including direct reports and channel partners, while fostering strong collaboration across the global commercial organization.

    • Serve as a hands-on player-coach, actively engaging in major accounts and complex GMP contracts as needed, while providing leadership, mentorship, and strategic guidance to empower the business development team to grow, scale, and consistently achieve revenue and performance targets.

    • Build and deliver impactful presentations, collaborate with marketing and commercial stakeholders to craft compelling messaging and positioning, and provide strategic input on campaigns and regional events to ensure alignment with revenue objectives and measurable ROI.

    • Provide market intelligence by continuously monitoring trends across the cell and gene therapy and infectious disease sectors — including emerging therapeutic modalities, evolving pricing and business models, and the competitive landscape across both research-use-only (RUO) and CDMO markets.

    • Structure deals: lead contract negotiation, deal terms, pricing strategy, risk assessment, scope of services, KPIs and deliverables.

    • Collaborate with internal science/tech, operations, quality, regulatory, and product teams to ensure service offerings meet client needs and market demands.

    • Ensure CRM/process discipline: pipeline forecasting, sales operations, reporting to executive leadership (CCO/CEO/COO).

    • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, client forums and thought-leadership venues to raise brand visibility and generate leads.

    • Engage with senior decision-makers at biotech/pharma clients (VP/Director level, heads of manufacturing/operations, C-suite) to position the CDMO as a strategic partner.

    • Serve as a key member of the commercial leadership team, working collaboratively to define and optimize go-to-market models for RUO and CDMO offerings in the cell and gene therapy market.

    • Serve as a core member of the leadership team, working cross-functionally to drive process improvements and train teams to ensure effective adoption across the organization.

    • Identify, qualify, and close major new business opportunities across EU and APAC for RUO and GMP CDMO synthetic DNA services, including service contracts and strategic partnerships.

    • Travel frequently, both domestically and internationally, as needed to meet clients, visit partner sites, attend company headquarters, and participate in industry conferences.

    • You will foster a positive team culture, coaching capability, pipeline/forecast discipline, and performance accountability.

    Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, or equivalent; advanced degree (MS/PhD) or MBA preferred.

    Qualifications

    • 15+ years of commercial or business development experience in biotech or biopharma service companies (CDMO/CMO/CRO/Life Sciences), with a proven track record of closing multi-million-dollar contracts in the cell & gene therapy or advanced biologics space. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a CDMO environment is required with at least 5 years in a leadership or player coach role.

    • Proven ability to lead and motivate high-performing commercial teams, driving them to consistently meet and exceed revenue and financial targets.

    • Established network of industry contacts (“rolodex”) and relationships with key decision-makers in biotech, pharma, and CDMO communities in the cell and gene therapy sector.

    • Experience selling both RUO and GMP-enabled services, understanding the differing sales cycles, regulatory considerations, and value propositions between research and clinical/commercial manufacturing.

    • Technical expertise in cell & gene therapy manufacturing workflows—including viral vectors, mRNA, plasmids, and synthetic DNA platforms—with fluency in GMP manufacturing, scale-up, process transfer, supply chain management, and regulatory requirements.

    • Proficiency with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce), pipeline management, and sales forecasting.

    • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute commercial plans, forecast revenue, and operate in complex and evolving markets.

    • Strong negotiation, deal structuring, and contract management skills, with experience working closely with legal, regulatory, and QA teams.

    • High level of communication and relationship-building skills; comfortable interfacing with C-suite clients and internal senior leadership.

    • Comfortable working in a high-growth, fast-paced environment.

    • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally 50- 75%.
